Title: Structured Play

Link: https://rebeccaauer.wordpress.com/2017/09/07/structured-play/

Abstract

Structured Play is also known as “playing with a purpose”. According to Amanda Rock (2017), structured play is any activity that offers a specific learning objective. Structured play may include games that are instructor led, including board games, puzzles, sorting games, or organized sport teams. According to the Academy of Pediatrics (2007), play contributes to the physical, emotional, cognitive and social skills of a child.

Structured play can provide new ideas and learning opportunities. Allowing children to answer open-ended questions will allow them to gain cognitive and comprehension skills later in learning. Active play for children, using motor skills is important for healthy development. Playing games that encourage team building, allow young children to learn how to cope with, and handle their emotions. Encouraging children to use their imagination will help boost self-esteem and help them to understand the importance of reading other people’s expressions, helping to  learn life skills.

Abstract

Over the course of Graduate Research Curriculum Project, I wanted to address struggling readers and how to help them become stronger readers. The curriculum project that I created focused on helping students learn the skills necessary to help develop their reading abilities. The intervention itself was designed as a whole year plan where students meet in a small group a few times each week for a short period. Students’ progress is tracked throughout the year and they are reassessed during the school year to monitor their individual progress.

Abstract

This Graduate Research Curriculum Project focused on the promotion of elementary students’ engagement of math through the arts. Over a period of eight weeks, action research will be conducted to measure the effectiveness of engagement of math through art in a fourth-grade classroom environment.  The educator will model a mathematical concept to a fourth-grade class; the educator will then apply that mathematical concept to an art project.  The Graduate Research Curriculum Project can be used to measure the students’ understanding of the math concept.  This interdisciplinary approach will measure and promote the motivation that art can have when learning math.

Abstract

Childhood educators are under great pressure to ensure that they are designing curriculum and implementing instruction that is highly engaging to all students. Teachers are expected to cover a wide range of curricular topics in a very short period of time, while students ae expected to demonstrate a deep understanding of these topics. Flow theory is a strategy that can be used to promote the highest levels of engagement and focus among students in the classroom. The application of flow can greatly impact student learning and change the dynamics in the process in which students learn new material.

It needs to be created because in today’s technological era, the demands of education are also changing and increasing rapidly. Future education should be based on innovation and creativity. Dealing with unexpected problems in creative ways and thinking flexibly become more and more significant in teaching. However, it is never too late to take action and make some transformations.
